Swallows FC have retained their DStv Premiership status following the conclusion of the PSL promotion/relegation play-offs on Wednesday.

The Dube Birds have lived to fight another season in the big-time after beating University of Pretoria 1-0 in the final play-off fixture at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Tshwane.

The two sides battled out in the decisive fixture in tense fashion as AmaTuks needed only a draw to secure promotion after a hard-fought GladAfrica Championship campaign, in which they ended runners-up to winners Richards Bay FC.

However, thanks to a solitary goal from former Kaizer Chiefs defender Yagan Sasman, the Soweto outfit managed to overcome the stern test to ensure they continue to fight among the country’s elite football clubs in the 2022/23 DStv Premiership.

Swallows finished off the three-way play-offs with seven points from four matches, while Tuks accumulated five and Cape Town All Stars managed just four points.

Coach Dylan Kerr’s side found themselves in the play-offs after accumulating just 26 points from 30 games in the 2021/22 DStv Premiership campaign, in which they managed just four wins, 14 draws and 12 defeats.
