SABC Sport can reveal that Swallows FC have given midfielder George Matlou the greenlight to negotiate personal terms with Kaizer Chiefs.

The decision is understood to have been taken soon after the Dube Birds secured their DStv Premiership status in the play-offs last week, freeing up management to make a call on the future of several of the club’s key players.

Matlou has been on the Glamour Boys’ radar for several months now and has previously worked with assistant coach Dillon Sheppard when he was playing for the Bidvest Wits juniors.

He then spent a brief stint in Portugal before joining Swallows last year and is now on the verge of joining Chiefs, who are rebuilding their squad for the newly-appointed permanent head coach Arthur Zwane.

According to information gathered by SABC Sport, Matlou’s move to the Soweto giants could be finalised as early this week but the two parties must agree on terms for there to be official confirmation of the transfer.

It’s not thought that, at this stage, there will be a stumbling block for a player who featured in 24 games for the Dube Birds in his debut season.

Chiefs are also still busy working on other potential deals – Matlou’s teammates Dillan Solomons and Kamohelo Mahlatsi as well as SC Braga’s Kobamelo Kodisang and Yusuf Maart of Sekhukhune United.

Zwane has already added Zitha Kwinika and Ashley Du Preez from Stellenbosch FC.
