Celebrated middle-distance sensation Dominic Scott-Efurd tips local athletes what to expect in America during the World Athletics Championships set to be held in Oregon, in the US from the 15th until the 24th of July this year. The 18th edition of the World Championships will take place in Hayward. Scott-Efurd says track and field is a big deal in America.
“One thing they can expect is a very very full stadium, eeeh track and field is very big in the State especially in Eugene and Oregon, people of Eugene love track and field so it will be totally full, there won’t be a seat open up on the World Championships, so they expect a lot of noise, a lot of cheering, I think everything will run very smoothly the facilities are amazing, so I think they can just expect a very high calibre track and field” said Scott-Efurd
Scott-Efurd will focus on the 5000m and she believes that she can win a medal at the World Championships as she recently clocked 15:28:10 to defend her 5000m at the ASA Senior Track and Field Championships at Green Point Stadium in Cape Town.
If all goes well Caster Semenya will be among the Athletes to compete in the States, Scott-Efurd advise her to focus on a well-set-up race, probably in the evening when it is cool to try and qualify for the World Championships and the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in August.
Scott-Efurd advised: “She’s gonna need someone to pace her, it’s probably gonna need to be like an evening race when it’s very cool, there is no wind obviously at sea level. So she’s gonna need a couple of things like that but yah obviously she is an amazing runner”
The 29-year-old has sent her regards to Semenya as she has as to run in other distances that she does not specialize in.
