After almost two years in the Danish topflight, defender Lorenzo Gordinho is set to leave Viborg FF and open to once again playing in the Premier Soccer League.

His last club in South Africa was Bidvest Wits, a side he had joined from Kaizer Chiefs having initially graduated from their youth structures.

Gordinho’s agent, Mike Makaab, confirmed to SABC Sport that the player will be looking for a fresh start as soon as the registration window is officially open.

“Lorenzo’s contract has come to an end, and it’s highly unlikely that it will be renewed at Viborg. We are looking for opportunities for Lorenzo both here in South Africa and abroad – he’s open to returning home, but also open to staying in Europe if the right offer presents itself,” Makaab explained.

The 28-year-old featured for both the first team and the reserves since joining Viborg nearly two seasons ago, but could never cement his place as a regular.

“I am not really sure what hasn’t worked in Denmark, one of the difficulties with Lorenzo is that he is equally adept at central defense and at full back. And sometimes when you have that ability, you are never quite seen as a specialist in your position,” his agent added.

“You are always seen as someone who has utility and great to have – if there are central midfielders missing, you will start…if there are right backs missing, you will slot in there. When that happens, you never quite master any one position in a team.

“I guess that’s what has happened here. He has been asked to do a job for the club and done really well, but he has been unable to command a regular position in any one position in the team. That’s been tough for him, and we’ve seen this in rugby as well.”
