The countdown to the much-anticipated Netball World Cup on African soil has started, and Netball SA President Cecilia Molokwane cannot contain her excitement. The first lady of SA netball tasked the Proteas to reach the final in the World Cup on home soil in Cape Town next year. The Proteas are preparing for the Commonwealth Games in August. Molokwane is confident of beating traditional netball powerhouses England, Australia, and New Zealand at the Commonwealth Games.
Molokwane has already identified 24 players that will go camping and receive full-time support until the world championships. The national federation will provide for the needs of the players and support them financially in the build-up to the global showpiece. She adds that they are eyeing young players who are hungry for the game
“Experience, young ones coming in, people that have been kept and people that are hungry to be in this World Cup team. People that have been working hard, players that I believe that whoever that you take and put on the court will put us through, because they are there not only for themselves and they understand that they are carrying the hopes of the country in their hands”
Molokwane has urged fans to purchase netball sporting gear to celebrate the Netball Fridays at their offices or in stores to promote the tournament.
