The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has welcomed the fact that Morocco lost bid to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Morocco was competing with Canada, Mexico, and the United States for 2026 FIFA World Cup bid for hosting rights.

When there were reports that the South African Football Association (SAFA) will support Morocco’s bid, the EFF wrote a letter to its leadership to request that they should not support Morocco.

“Sports must never be neutral to colonization and violation of human rights. It must never be used to legitimize brutal regimes that deny people the basic human right to self-determination,” says EFF in a statement.

The party has also called for the isolation of the country.

“We therefore call on the international community to mount its complete isolation of Morocco until it ends it’s illegal occupation of Western Sahara.  We further reiterate our condemnation of African Union for reintegrating Morocco into the African Union as this is an immense contradiction of Africa’s rejection on colonialism. Any friendship with colonizers is a direct insult and condemnation to our values of self-determination.”
