South Africa’s Kevin Anderson has advanced to the second round of the Australian Open tennis tournament in Melbourne.
The fifth seeded Anderson beat Adrian Mannarino of France in four sets the score 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1.
Mannarino is ranked 41st in the world.
Second seed Rafael Nadal of Spain also advanced to the next round.
He beat Australian wildcard James Duckworth 6-4, 6-3, 7-5.
And former world number one, Maria Sharapova, was in a no-nonsense mood, beating British qualifier Harriet Dart 6-love, 6-love in just over an hour.
