Two million WC tickets sold
Over two million tickets for the 2010 FIFA World Cup have been sold after three of the five ticket phases.
This was announced by FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke in a press conference in Sandton today.
The third ticketing phase, which will conclude with a random draw for oversubscribed matches next Monday, saw 1,206,865 applications received in total from 192 countries.
Six matches are currently oversubscribed, among them the semi-finals and the final.
In total 55 matches are oversubscribed in at least one category.
There's been a huge improvement from South Africans interest as well as they accounted for 79% (958,381) of the total applications received.
This has led to LOC CEO Danny Jordaan also toning down on his earlier worry for Bafana tickets not being snapped up.
